All About Our Email Lists

The Buddha House 'Center News' Email News is the easiest way to keep up to date with all the latest news and announcements relating to the center and it's community.

On this page is information about how to subscribe to our email newsletter, and how to manage your subscription.

Note - an email newsletter can also be called news groupemail list, list server or just lists.

Sometimes we get requests to subscribe people to one of our email lists. It's not so simple for us to subscribe you to an email list, but it is very simple for you to subscribe yourself.

It is also beneficial to subscribe yourself so that you are familiar with the process, and so that you get all the right information.

How to Subscribe

Here's how to subscribe to our 'Center News' Email Newsletter.

Go to www.buddhahouse.org and enter your name and email address in the fields under the “Email News” tab. Click the "Subscribe" button.

An email will now be sent to the address that you entered, and it contains a link that you must click on to complete (and confirm) the subscription process. You must click this link or you will not be subscribed to the newsletter.

Should take about 30 seconds.

Subscribing when Registering - You can also subscribe to our email newsletter when registering  - just check the "Newsletter" checkbox when you enter your user registration information. (Click the “Register” link at the bottom of the “User Login” box, or just go to http://www.buddhahouse.org/Create-an-account.html )

Once you have registered (and subsequently 'logged-in' to the website with your username and password), you can join or unsubscribe from lists by editing your profile (look for the "Your Profile" link in the User menu in the left hand column), or also by the first method above. Registering is very worthwhile because it gives you access to lots of other features in the website.

Managing your Subscription

To Unsubscribe - Every newsletter that is sent from us has a link at the bottom that allows you to easily unsubscribe.

Options for Registered Users - If you have also created a user profile with the website, and if the email you used to register your user profile was the same email address as the one you subscribed with, then our software will automatically match the two records, and you will have further options available when you edit or update your user profile (User menu > Your Profile > Edit > Update your profile > Newsletters tab).

  1. Checkbox to enable / disable your subscription.
  2. Option to receive either html or plain text emails.
Note - if you use a mobile device (or anything with a very small screen) you may prefer to receive a plain text version of the newsletters.

Yahoo Groups List

Yahoo Groups List

The Yahoo Groups list had been the main work-horse until about 2007. It was set up some years ago. Recently we have been using our own mailing list software that is integrated into our website, so theres probably not much point in subscribing to this list any more.

But here are some pointers in case they are ever needed.

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Buddha_House/http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Buddha_House/
The main thing here is that you have to get a Yahoo ID before you can join.  But it can be set and forget. To join now, go to the web address above and follow the prompts. Alternatively send an email to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it and follow the prompts that are then emailed to you.

There's nothing particularly hard here, just fill out some basic details, creating a unique username, choose a password that conforms to their requirements, and click a confirmation link that is sent. You have to 'join' Yahoo - thats the price of the free service :-) Should take about 2-3 minutes.

Caution - when you eventually receive an email that is posted, if you 'reply' then the reply will be posted to everyone in the list. This isn't very obvious because the 'From' address appears to be from the author - not the newsgroup - but the reply address goes to the newsgroup.

Once you are joined everyone can easily post to the list by sending their message to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it . The messages are moderated. This is different from the Buddha House Lists, where only designated people can post messages.
